If this is the correct collective memory series
This series - If this is the correct collective memory - comprises different works, including prints, sculptures, and objects. In this series, I explore my early life experiences in China through the remote perspective of my life in America. During the process of making this work, I realized that as individuals living in society- regardless of nationality- we often share a collective memory that is mostly constructed in the unconscious by our external environment which affects how we approach and perceive things as we grow up. Thus, to rethink and relearn this collective memory when we can engage with society more critically is to question what has been established, and redefine what has been given to us. In this specific work, I take inspiration of the image from guǎng bō tǐ cāo - a gymnastics dance that’s mandatory for chinese students in elementary and middle school to do everyday as their exercise.
