Lu is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist, researcher, and educator. Lu received her BA in Art History and Studio Arts from the University of Pittsburgh and recently completed her MFA at the Pratt Institute. She has exhibited her work in the U.S. and internationally.

Lu has maintained an interdisciplinary practice that incorporates different mediums such as woodworking, printmaking, textiles, and performance. Working across disciplines allows her to construct different visual layers to express her ideas. My works often manifest as research-based, concept-driven, interdisciplinary installations.

Artists Statement

My practice explores the intersection of language and history through both personal and communal lenses of storytelling, archiving, and symbol study. My migration history and memories of surviving in different environments provide me with a unique perspective on understanding the relationships between people, time, space, and politics.

Over the past three years, I have constructed spaces in various forms in my works: a room, a couch, a library, a letter… These spaces are grounded in the reality that I witness and participate in. In these spaces, I incorporate language, symbols, and objects to create references for viewers. I then reflect on and protest this reality by altering, covering, multiplying, and recontextualizing these components so they become symbolic, performative, and questionable. These spaces function as a “mirroring reality” for viewers to learn from, to be provoked by, and to be confronted with. I question the linear perspectives and narratives we are accustomed to and resist the urge to provide definitive answers.
