Re-read Hai Zi's poem Diary with wind, rocks, sun, and grass

It’s a work I still think about today sometimes, always wondering how it will look like now with all the wild wind, rain, sunshine and snow out there in Wyoming… The text I painted on the shelter was a poem written by Hai Zi (海子) in 1988. Full original & translation in p3&4 also below. I was hit so strongly by the landscape when I first arrived in Wyoming. The quietness, the wildness, and openness and the endless loneliness, and so much more about it that I am not able to put it in words. And then this poem I read years ago just came to mind. The poet was on the train passing through a similar landscape in China when he wrote the poem. Through his words, I was able to find some senses of familiarity and comfortability walking on this new land. Huge thanks to Delanie Jenkins for all the support and critics for this work, and my time in Wyoming, and documenting the works when she retuned in the winter

Diary
Hai Zi
sister, tonight I am in Delingha, shrouded in the darkness
tonight there is only the Gobi
the grasslands have ended and I am empty handed
in my pain unable to hold even a tear
sister, tonight I am in Delingha
barren, blank city in the rain
